The aim of the association SmilEU is to educate about the European Union and its Member states in an amusing and ludic way.
For the moment, SmilEU focus its efforts to children and young people. We often hear that children and youngsters are the citizens of tomorrow. Thus they are essential to the construction of the EU. Moreover, children are the most attentive audience, especially when the EU is presented to them in an entertaining way. It is good to expose them to the diversity of the European countries and to raise their awareness about the EU.
The first contact which children have with the EU is very important, therefore it must be positive in order to avoid the reaction like "That’s boring, all these dates of the enlargements, the institutions are so complicated...". It is necessary to gain their interest, so that they will want to discover more later. We believe that it is necessary to make the presentations on the EU inspiring and entertaining. With a smile! This is why SmilEU was born.
The association was founded in January 2011, in France, like "Association loi de 1901" by four young Europeans : Emmanuelle (French), Marek (French-Czech), Barbara (Polish) and Veronika (Czech). Tomas (Czech) is also helping us.
